NEVADA CHAPTER OF THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS:

2010 NASLA RESIDENTIAL MERIT AWARD: RESIDENCE L

This exceptional project within the Ridges masterplanned community in Summerlin was born out of a collaboration between knowledgeable homeowners, a fantastic architect and the 'can-do' builder. The owners of this residence embraced the concept of developing a home that blends with the natural desert and existing hillside. Special attention was placed upon spatial planning, exposures, orientation, microclimates and landform.

2009 NASLA RESIDENTIAL HONOR AWARD: M2 RESIDENCE

The owners of this residential estate envisioned a Tuscan inspired residence that met the needs of their demanding family and lifestyle while preserving the fantastic views surrounding them. The prime location within the Southern Highlands residential development adjacent to the 12th  hole fairway of the golf course appealed to the owner and thus desired to integrate the dramatic views into the property design. The design of the home required that the exterior site elements fit seamlessly and blend to the interior spaces for year round use. The site elements included the following: a symmetrical pool with dramatic focal points, shallow ledge areas, play zone, and swim lap capabilities, a heated spa near the master suite, multiple entertaining areas, shaded patio spaces, rose garden, courtyard with old world fountain, and decorative paving/sitewall elements, a dog run, landscape lighting and Italianate furnishings and planting containers.

2009 NASLA UN-BUILT MERIT AWARD: NEON BONEYARD PARK

The City of Las Vegas and the Office of Cultural Affairs teamed up to develop a culturally significant project to house some very important historical pieces of Las Vegas, its vintage neon signs.  The park would be part of a larger 'campus' that would ultimately house the Neon Museum Visitor andAdministration Center, the Neon Boneyard storage areas, parking lots, a large monument sign and display areas for refurbished signage.  The park is to offer visitors a self guided tour with interpretive signage, a large replicated Googie style monument sign, a shade shelter, gathering spaces, walking paths and performance/display stage.  The overall 'campus' design had to be responsive to the historically significant period of vintage neon signage and mid century modern or 'googie' style architecture. The centerpiece of the campus is the historically significant La Concha Motel which was relocated to the property to be incorporated into the museum lobby, visitor center and administration office in the near future.  The park would also incorporate security fencing, decorative block walls and gates, lighting and landscape.

2009 INTERNATIONAL GAVA GOLD AWARD FOR DYNAMIC MODERNISM

This modern residence with fantastic views of Red Rock Canyon and a shallow backyard provided unique design opportunities. The inclusion of an award winning elevated negative edge swimming pool with raised spa and arching screen wall/water feature provide a great environment for privacy and contemplation.  The modern design vernacular and strong geometry of the spaces lent to the arrangement of the exterior environment. The addition of decorative spheres, unique planters and bold cacti enhance the space visually. The site program included the following: modern angular pool, elevated spa with spillways, reflecting pool quality, shallow ledge areas, screened patio area with built-in cushioned seating, outdoor kitchen space, fire trough, a putting green area, whimsical outdoor shower,  landscape lighting and modern furnishings.
